Caplor hill race - 18th July 2021

Julie Caseley reports on her Caplor hill race commenting "This was formerly Gord’s 6 and this year the course was run in reverse as it had been judged that, due to soil erosion, descending the steps from Caplor Fort was too dangerous. This meant that they had to be climed but then there were some nice downhill sections and relatively flat along the banks of the River Wye with a 200m very steep uphill finish.

The course was mainly off-road and had a number of gates and stiles. However, crossing two large hay fields was probably the hardest part of the course. On a very hot day, the race started in waves of 10 runners at one minute intervals in order to maintain social distancing and minimise overtaking. Runners wore wristbands that had to be tagged at the start, half way round and at the finish.

I finished this 6.5 mile race in a time of 1:06:54 and was 5th female to finish and was 1st in my age category."
