Frampton 10K 28th June 2021
Report from Wesley Ogden, who ran an even PB of 47:23
“I entered the Frampton on Severn 10k back in 2020 but like many events, it was cancelled. I decided to keep my place for 2021 as it I did with all my cancelled events, also this event is always in high demand.
The event is one of a number run by Stroud & District AC, others include hilly trail events which would suit many Buzzards and all at a reasonable price. Anyway enough promotion for S&D AC.
I’ve always wanted to run this event because I was informed that it was a quick 10k route and also I worked in Frampton over 30 years ago! So the event took place on Monday 28th June on a grey cloudy evening at 19:30, however it was still very muggy.
I haven’t been doing any specific preparation for a 10k but my general fitness was good so I was
hoping to get close to my 10k PB of just under 50 minutes, anything close to that and I would have been pleased. For once I tried to do a proper warm-up before the run and not just the general stretching, so a number of short sprints to get the heart rate up.
The start was in waves due to Covid restrictions, this was well organised as was the whole event. I actually preferred this method of starting an event, far less crowded and it also allows you to start the race at full pace. I went off at a good pace but I tried to avoid looking at my watch and just run the course, however, I did manage a sneaky peep at 5k and I could see that I was on target for a reasonable time if I could just keep pushing.
Well, I finally crossed the line in 47:23, needless to say, I was well pleased. The course lived up to the billing, it is ideal if you are looking for a PB, the best I have run and on quiet country lanes. Just one slight incline between 3 & 4k otherwise it is a gentle decent or flat as a pancake.
Unfortunately, no medal to add to my bling and luckily no awful T-shirt made of sandpaper! However, a bottle of cider was gratefully received. I will be booking again next year to try and
break the elusive 45 minute barrier before the legs get too old.
To sum up, a great course and a well organised
event.....................but book early.
